Climate change is the greatest threat to our planet’s future. The levels of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere are at their highest levels in two million years and are climbing. These gases are warming our planet. We are already witnessing their impact as increased droughts, wildfires, floods, and storms ravage our communities and animal species, teetering on the brink of extinction. We must act now to reduce our carbon footprint and ensure our children inherit a habitable planet.

That is where the QNET Green Legacy comes in.

Why Do We Need to Address Climate Change?

We have lived through several disasters over the last decade that have been caused by climate change, directly or indirectly. Over the next decade, we can expect more natural disasters, illnesses and other catastrophes. We know through science that the problem is man-made. While we can’t reverse what has been already lost, we can do our bit to make a positive difference.

The QNET Green Legacy Pledge

QNET understands its role in addressing climate change and other environmental issues and is committed to safeguarding the planet and working towards a greener future for all. As we empower our employees and distributors to champion sustainable practices in their daily lives, we also seek to partner with trusted environmental actors to spearhead sustainable initiatives around the world and drive a global discussion around sustainability.

Strategic QNET Product Development and an Ethical Supply Chain

QNET values good business practices and environmental responsibility through its supply chain, as the company strives for a fully sustainable and responsible procurement process. In product development and operations, QNET adopts a holistic, purpose-led strategy, an approach that minimises waste and emphasises the efficient use of resources, contributing to a more sustainable business model that aligns with the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Here are a few examples of how QNET does this:

Certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council

QNET’s jewellery and watch collections are crafted using recycled gold and ethically sourced precious stones procured from suppliers who are certified members of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). These suppliers undergo independent audits based on the Council’s Code of Practices, ensuring adherence to guidelines related to human and labour rights, environmental impact, and fair mining practices.

Alternative Packaging

All QNET product packaging uses eco-friendly materials such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper and recyclable sleeves and boxes.

Energy-Efficient HomePure Line

HomePure products have been developed to consume the least amount of energy possible. The HomePure Zayn air purifier boasts low power consumption, while the HomePure Nova promotes less water wastage and reduction of single-use plastic bottles through a water filtration system that does not require electricity to operate.

You can also learn more about how QNET products help combat the negative impact of climate change on health in this blog post.

QNET’s Reforestation Initiative

The QNET Green Legacy actively contributes to environmental conservation through a global reforestation initiative. In 2021, we partnered with EcoMatcher to kick-start this and have since participated in reforestation efforts through various organisations in communities worldwide. So far, we have planted trees in the following countries:

Philippines – 1,000 trees

For its Philippine forest, QNET teamed up with Fostering Education and Environment for Development (FEED) to help grow, preserve, and protect the country’s biodiversity.

United Arab Emirates – 1,000 trees

We partnered with the Emirates Marine Environmental Group (EMEG), a non-profit based in Dubai, to plant mangroves that are essential in protecting coastal communities.

Kenya – 1,000 trees

Through the non-profit organisation Trees for Kenya, we planted eight different tree species to help the local communities combat the negative effects of climate change.

Indonesia – 2,000 trees

In partnership with the RYTHM Foundation and the Indonesian National Armed Forces, QNET planted 2,000 mangrove trees in Bali to commemorate World Environment Day 2022.

Turkey – 3,000 trees

In July and August 2021, Turkey suffered devastating wildfires that affected over 1,700 square kilometres of forested areas. QNET Turkey collaborated with the Association for Solidarity of Environmental Organisations (CEKUD) to contribute to the country’s large-scale reforestation exercise in response to the ecological imbalance caused by the summer fires.

Algeria – 500 trees

Also as part of a rehabilitation initiative, QNET employees and Independent Representatives joined a reforestation exercise in the northern region of Algeria to rehabilitate part of a forest destroyed by wildfires.

Malaysia – 1,250 trees

In December 2023, we planted 1,250 mangrove trees in Malaysia in collaboration with the Selangor Forestry Department, the Malaysian Coastal Fishermen’s Network Education and Welfare Association (JARING), and students from Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah. QNET embarked on this initiative with RYTHM Foundation to commemorate the company’s 25th Anniversary and foster the championing of community spirit. Another 1,250 mangrove trees will be planted in February 2024.

A Sustainable Culture

The QNET Green Legacy is our mission to cultivate a sustainable culture that extends from our company to each Independent Representative and beyond. We invite you, the driving force behind our success, to be champions of sustainability in your daily lives. Let’s actively shape a culture of environmental consciousness, integrating sustainable practices into our routines.

Here are some of the ways the QNET community does just that:

A Meat-Free Policy from Day Zero

QNET actively encourages a plant-based lifestyle and globally enforces a meat-free policy at all its offices and events, aiming to minimise greenhouse gas emissions and alleviate environmental impact.

First BCA Accredited High-Rise Office

QNET’s office building in Malaysia is the first high-rise in the country to receive the prestigious Green Mark Gold Award from the Building Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA) for achieving a 20% increase in resource savings and facilitating more efficient energy and water use throughout the tower.

Saying No to Single-Use Plastics

QNET has implemented a ban on single-use plastic across its offices, events, and conventions as part of a commitment to reduce plastic waste, strongly encouraging everyone to opt for reusable containers instead. Each QNET office is equipped with easily accessible recycle bins to support responsible waste management.

In 2021, HomePure invited people to participate in the #BottleSelfieChallenge, a pledge not to buy and consume bottled beverages in a bid to reduce plastic pollution, which they can commemorate by submitting a selfie with their favourite reusable bottle.

Proud Member of the United Nations Global Compact

In 2015, QNET’s parent company, the QI Group of Companies, proudly became a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Network, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.

Your individual choices matter, and by incorporating sustainability into your personal journey, you can create a positive impact on a broader scale. Take a step further and get involved with climate change charities; it’s a swift and impactful way for you to contribute to a cause greater than yourself, leaving a lasting imprint on the global sustainability landscape. Together, let’s pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future.
